What is Important to Buy for Your New Home

First Things You Should Buy for Your New Home

After months of researching home loans and looking at homes for sale with personal tours and hours on the internet, you have closed on your new home.  What items are best to purchase immediately?  Before you move in all your stuff, keep this following list in mind.

New locks

This should be #1, even before you move any of your property into your new home.

An alarm system

Safety is first priority! Shop around, make comparisons, talk with friends to find the best system for your home.

Pro tip: Buying a security system could even save you money on your homeowners insurance – check with your insurance agent.

Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors

Updating, buy new if you don’t have any currently or replace the batteries in functioning detectors.  Don’t forget to add to your calendar for a future battery change.

Cleaning and organizing essentials

No home is complete (or make that functional) without some basics on hand like trash bags, cleaning supplies, and clothing hangers and don’t forget to buy a shower curtain

Steamclean the carpets and be sure to replace the HVAC filters. Think about hiring a professional to deep clean before you move in.  You may also want to get your ducting system cleaned.

A binder for all your important documents

Tax bills, home improvement records, maintenance records.  Put the deed in a fireproof safe.

A keypad for the garage door

Don’t ever get locked out again!

This is not an exhaustive list, but a great place to start.  If you have any questions about real estate, contact me.  Melissasells309@gmail.com and be sure to check out my website for the properties I have listed and all the listing in the Peoria area. Love Where You Live!

Someone who previously used Melissa referred me. She was great! She responded immediately to my phone call and set up a time to view the house. I had pretty much made up my mind, so I made an offer right away, and I got the home! Melissa scheduled all the inspections for me and kept me up to date. I would recommend Melissa to anyone.
